YES, EVEN THE BELIEVERS STRUGGLING WITH "HABITUAL SIN" CANNOT LOSE THEIR SALVATION
Friends
What are we doing when we teach that believers in “habitual sin”can lose their salvation. Can’t we see the hypocrisy and divergence from the gospel Paul preached?Surely we must admit that there is a hint of self righteousness if we are going to state that a believer can lose his or her salvation based on their deeds.
How many sins did Jesus die for?All of them.Past present and future right?
But what about this believer still sinning?
Well is there a believer you know who does not commit any sins?
But he/she keeps sinning the same sin over and over again.
So does every other christian.
But they sin on purpose, they sin willfully.
Who doesn’t?
But his sins are big you know, adultery and stuff.
Honestly is this the level the gospel has been shrunk to?Judging Big sins vs small sins.Constant sinning against sinning with breaks in between?Let us not be fooled into taking our eyes off Jesus and His perfect work on the cross. We would be hypocrites otherwise.
So what about 1 john 3 1-10?
Read in its context,it is a contrast between two types of people. The Children of God(believers) who will see God and are currently in a sanctification process on this side of heaven (1 john 3 1-3) contrasted to the children of the devil(unbelievers)who prove their unbelief by reveling and glorifying in all types of sins.(1 john 3 4-9)
Believers however do not enjoy sin.We are always uncomfortable in it and find no life in it despite getting tripped by it,we are not content in it.That’s what it means to be dead to sin and alive to Christ, that we find no life in sin or the flesh and are only fulfilled in Christ.
What about hebrews 6 4-6 and hebrews 10 26?
The context of both passages is a warning to unbelievers. That they should stop taking Jesus blood for granted and instead believe in Him and Him alone and leave the old system of sacrificing animals on the altar for forgiveness and righteousness. These are not believers plus they are jewish either way(letter to the hebrews - duh) not gentiles.
We gentiles(well at least I am)were never invited to the temple system in the first place.
Friends,It is either one is born again or is not born again.Once born again, you cannot be unborn.Either we have eternal life or we don’t.Once you have received eternal life,it cannot become temporary life. You are not righteous because of your actions. You are righteous independent of your actions. You are righteous because God made you righteous. That is the gospel.
