WHY MANY CHRISTIANS LACK SELF CONTROL.
Self control is a major issue not only among the church but for humans in general.In fact it is probably right to say that if all people had a positive aspect of self control,the world would be a much better place.
The reason why most christians lack self control is not because they are weak in will(everyone is)but it is because they do not understand that Self control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
In other words,we are trying to get self control by our own discipline and will power.That is why we see no results.
The biggest step to gaining self control is by understanding galatians 5 17 18"For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want.But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
The first step is to NOT be under the demands of the ten commandments if you are ever going to have full self control of your body,thoughts and emotions.
Unfortunately,the church has taught that christians can gain self control by fasting,praying daily and other weird methods(that the world uses)
Friends,Self control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.The root of this fruit is to be established in the gospel.Knowing your identity in Christ.Being certain that you are perfectly righteous in God's eyes even when you sin.Knowing that God will never be angry with you ever again neither will He condemn you or ever forsake you.
Not because of your obedience but simply because of Christ's finished work on the cross.
Want self control?
stop trying to get it by your will power.Instead look to Christ.2 cor 3 18"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image(as Christ Himself) from glory to glory to another by the Spirit of the Lord.
Stop looking at yourself,your shortcomings and weaknesses,instead focus on your righteousness(not by deeds) and wholeness in Christ and see your life transformed.
