ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF GOD'S LOVE FOR US FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT.
The story of Hosea and Gomer depicts God's love for both the natural and Spiritual Israel.Since most of us are not Jews we will look at the spiritual aspect of this and how it applies to believers today.
The Story in a nutshell is Hosea is married to Gomer but Gomer leaves him for another man.Later Hosea goes and buys her back as He still loves her despite her adulterous affair.
Jesus Christ is represented by Hosea and we are the bride of Christ Gomer. No matter how unfaithful we are to the one who truly loves us,He will always come back to save us from ourselves and from the world.
Do you know how much Hosea paid for Gomer?Hosea 3 2"So I bought her for "myself" for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a half of barley."Now If you have studied numbers and symbols in the bible, you know that 15 is a number that means "rest in grace"and that silver is a symbol of "redemption",Barley is used to make bread.
This is a vivid picture of what Christ accomplished for us 2000 years ago.His body was broken for us and we were redeemed(silver)not by our own actions neither did we deserve it but simply by resting in His Grace(number 15)
Hosea and Gomer names combined means To be delivered/saved(Hosea) completely/
Never forget that Christ saved you for "Himself"If Jesus was asked why He saved you,the answer would be,"because I love him, because I love her."Friends,it is love that saved you.Christ loves you at your worst(As Gomer was)so that you know it is not your actions that determine His love for you.
This is a reason to celebrate life. You are loved personally and intimately by the creator of the universe and He calls you."My child."Truly nothing can separate us from the love of the father.
